OSCE Minsk Group's field mission to arrive in Yerevan on October 6th

The co-chairmen of the OSCE Minsk Group will arrive in Yerevan on October 6 evening after a familiarization mission in the area of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian was quoted by Mediamax agency in Yerevan today.

He said that this is a field mission of the Minsk Group co-chairmen. They are accompanied by technical experts from UN Commissariat for Refugees. The Minister noted that participants of the mission will study the general situation in the conflict zone. He said that newly appointed U.S and Russian co-chairmen have not been in this area yet. They do not know the details of the situation.

According to a statement made by the Minsk Group on Sept. 25, the OSCE Assessment Mission will visit the occupied territories of Azerbaijan in early October.

Following on their preliminary contacts with UN officials in Geneva and New York, the co-chairs formally invited UNDP and UNHCR experts to participate in the mission, the statement said.

The OSCE Assessment Mission examines the situation in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan on Azerbaijan's initiative. During their most recent visit the co-chairs visited these areas and familiarized themselves with the situation. The mediators are expected to prepare a report on the current situation in the occupied lands.
