Azerbaijan's ruling party clarifies replacement of parliamentary candidates in two constituencies

30 September 2010 [16:06] - TODAY.AZ
The ruling New Azerbaijan Party (NAP) clarified Thursday the replacement in two constituencies of candidates running in upcoming parliamentary elections.
In the 2005 parliamentary elections, the NAP supported the candidacy of poet Vagif Samadoglu in the 107th Gazakh Constituency. But the party has withdrawn Samadoglu's candidacy in this constituency, replacing him with Ahmad Valiyev, NAP Deputy Chairman and Executive Secretary Ali Ahmedov told journalists today.

Meanwhile, given that the party failed to achieve victory in the 34th constituency in the previous election, this year the NAP is putting forward a stronger candidate - Gular Ahmadova, whose candidacy has been previously proposed for the 15th Yasamal Constituency No.1.

Party activist Rasim Nabiyev will now contest the 15th Yasamal Constituency No.1.

Two members of the party have individually nominated their candidacy for the 31st Surakhani Constituency No. 2, Ahmedov said.

"We are clarifying their potential. After this, the party will decide on supporting one of these candidates. If Ahad Abiyev wishes to try himself in this constituency, we will consider this possibility," he said.

The parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan are scheduled for November 7, 2010. Previous parliamentary elections were held in November 2005. Parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan are held by the majority system in 125 constituencies.
