The 18th informal meeting of Council of Europe sports ministers started in baku today.

"The conference will contribute to developing sports cooperation among European countries," Azerbaijani Deputy Prime Minister Elchin Efendiyev said at the opening ceremony. Efendiyev added that much has been done to advance the sports industry in Azerbaijan.
Baku has hosted large-scale sporting events due to the successful cooperation of the Youth and Sports Ministry and National Olympic Committee, he said.
The first half of the conference will discuss sports corruption and fixing, while the second half will consider pan-European sports cooperation. The ministerial conference will also mull issues such as visas to athletes, the fight against doping, and cooperation between the EU and the Council of Europe.
The conference takes place every two years and is attended by representatives from 36 European countries.
