"C-300 systems will not allow Armenian Air Forces to fly into Azerbaijan's territory"

13 September 2010 [11:57] - TODAY.AZ
"Air Force of Armenia is not strong enough to send aircraft into Azerbaijan’s air space if Azerbaijan is to have C-300 systems,” Azerbaijani military expert Dadash Rzayev said commenting on Azerbaijan’s plans to purchase C-300 systems. It should be noted, that S-300 are purely defensive types of weapons.

This is an air defense system. If I'm not mistaken, C-300 system have also been installed in Armenia, and also at Russia’’s Gumri base in this country, too. First of all, it is designed to protect air space," said the military expert.

“Azerbaijan’s geographical location requires it to have a similar anti-missile systems to defend its airspace first of all, from Armenia, but also from other states."

"Russia in this case earns big money selling weapons to Azerbaijan. This is the first reason,” the expert added.

“Secondly, from a political point of view, Moscow wants to show everyone that it treats both Armenia and Azerbaijan equally,” the expert said.

“Among other things, there were talks that C-300 will also be delivered to Iran. Russia did not do it, apparently, so as not to spoil relations with the United States. And I think after that Moscow decided to redirect these systems to Azerbaijan instead of Iran," the expert noted.
