Azerbaijani analyst on possible adoption of resolution on Azerbaijan's occupied lands by UN

30 August 2010 [17:25] - TODAY.AZ
Azerbaijani professor and political analyst Fikrat Sadigov says voting on resolutions like “Resolution on situation in occupied territories of Azerbaijan” in the UN shows sympathy and dislikes of various countries.

"I remember a resolution of 2008, which was reviewed at a meeting of the UN General Assembly in March 2008. Now, a similar resolution will be put on vote. But, result is important in this case. And we remember that in 2008 the document put forward by Azerbaijan was adopted by majority vote while OSCE Minsk Group countries voted against it, hiding their indulgence to Armenia’s "whims" by unwillingness to consider the Karabakh conflict outside the OSCE Minsk Group. But they lost and the resolution was adopted becoming one of the most striking victories of Azerbaijan's diplomacy,” the analyst noted.

"Numerous resolutions, decisions and other documents on the Karabakh issue have been adopted in Azerbaijan's favor. The new debates should again draw global attention to our unresolved issue. In spite of the amorphism of UN, resolutions adopted by this organization still have some weight. The adoption of this document would mean Armenia’s crossing all possible limits of Azerbaijan’s tolerance. I am sure that this resolution will be adopted by a majority of countries," Sadigov added.
