NATO increases Afghanistan shipping via Azerbaijan

NATO is expected to increase shipping to Afghanistan via Georgia and Azerbaijan, the Ministry of Transport of Azerbaijan said.
Troops' equipments' parts withdrawn from Iraq and non-military shipment will be sent to Afghanistan via Turkey, Azerbaijan, Caspian Sea and Turkmenistan.

The ministry said European countries increased the humanitarian shipping to Afghanistan. 190.4 thousand tonnes of humanitarian cargo, including medicine, equipment for the troops, as well as non-military supplies were sent to Afghanistan via TRACECA from January to June, 2010.

Head of the National Secretariat of the TRACECA Intergovernmental Commission in Azerbaijan Akif Mustafayev told APA that NATO countries transport 1500 containers to Afghanistan via Azerbaijan every month. NATO gives great importance to the part of TRACECA corridor passing through Azerbaijan, said Mustafayev and added that the shipping is carried out according to the agreements.
