Azerbaijan's ruling party: Unification of Azerbaijan's two opposition parties ordered from outside

16 July 2010 [16:28] - TODAY.AZ
Unification of two opposition parties in Azerbaijan is an order from outside, Deputy Chairman of New Azerbaijan Party Ali Ahmadov told media.
"These two parties had bad relations for the recent years. They nearly call each other to a duel. The decision gives reason to believe that it was done upon outside order," Ahmadov said.

Chairman of the Musavat Party, Isa Gambar, yesterday made a proposal to unite with the  Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan. The decision provoked a strong reaction from other parties within the Azadliq bloc. It was announced that the bloc terminates its activities.

Ahmadov said these move will fail as previous ones.

"It is people who must be the source of support for political parties. Those who hope for success from outside will fail," he said.

He said that there is no political force capable of competing with the ruling New Azerbaijan Party in forthcoming parliamentary elections.

"Discord within the opposition has weakened the already weak Azerbaijani opposition", he said.

He said that the opposition pays much attention to internal conflicts. Opposition parties are competing with each other as they are not able to compete with the ruling party.
