15 July 2010 [17:45] - TODAY.AZ
Foreign minister of Azerbaijan Elmar Mammadyarov met Thursday his Portuguese counterpart Luís Amado.
Following the meeting, the two ministers held a joint press conference.

Mammadyarov said Amado's visit would contribute to developing cooperation between Azerbaijan and Portugal.

The minister noted he had briefed his counterpart on Azerbaijan`s stance on the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, adding the dispute must be settled on the basis of Azerbaijan`s territorial integrity and inviolability of borders.

Mammadyarov also pointed out they had signed two documents on conducting political consultations between the two countries' Foreign Ministries and visa-free travel for those who hold diplomatic and special passports.

Mammadyarov also touched upon an informal meeting of OSCE foreign ministers to be held on July 16-17 in Almaty, saying on the sidelines of the event, he will meet his Armenian counterpart Edward Nalbandian to discuss settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, including the updated Madrid principles.

Amado, in turn, said Azerbaijan was actively participating in EU's Eastern Partnership program.

He underlined as an EU member state Portugal attaches great importance to cooperation with Azerbaijan. Touching upon the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, he said positions of Portugal and EU coincide on the issue.

“We support what the OSCE Minsk Group is doing to settle the conflict. We want peace and stability to be established in the region.”
