Davutoglu: Turkey will never neglect Azerbaijan's interests

14 July 2010 [15:46] - TODAY.AZ
Turkey will never neglect Azerbaijan's interests in the process of normalizing relations with Armenia, Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu was quoted as saying by Cihan news agency.
"Turkey will continue to provide unstinting support to Azerbaijan, with which it always had special relations," Davutoglu said, adding that the Turkish government's position on normalization of relations with Armenia remains unchanged.

He said that the signing of protocols on the normalization of relations with Armenia is Ankara's important step to establish peace and stability in South Caucasus, but it is not enough.

"It is necessary to resolve the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan for lasting peace and stability in the region. Normalization of Turkish-Armenian relations is not enough in this context," Davutoglu said.

Turkish minister said that the stabilization of the situation in the South Caucasus is one of the main objectives of Ankara's foreign policy.

"The current political conflicts in South Caucasus pose obstacles to peace and stability that is a constant threat to regional countries, including Turkey," Davutoglu said.

Speaking of the future protocols with Armenia, Turkish Foreign Minister said that the documents will come into force only after approval by the parliaments of both countries.

In April, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan signed a decree to suspend ratification of the Armenian-Turkish protocols in the parliament.
