Bulgarian President to visit Azerbaijan

30 June 2010 [12:19] - TODAY.AZ
Bulgarian President Georgi Parvanov will pay a two-day visit to Azerbaijan from June 30 to July1, according to Sofia News Agency.
During the visit, it's planned to discuss development of bilateral relations in political and trade-economic spheres.

Parvanov offered to organize a tripartite meeting of companies of Bulgaria, Turkey and Azerbaijan for talks on gas deliveries from Azerbaijan to Bulgaria in Turkey, where he was on the visit before arriving in Azerbaijan. Gas route from Azerbaijan to Bulgaria is of key importance for the EU in terms of diversification of fuel supplies.

Parvanov's visit can also be considered in the context of the recent rumors about Bulgaria's role in the future gas pipeline "South Stream".

Presidents of Azerbaijan and Bulgaria will also discuss progress on the project on delivery of compressed natural gas from Azerbaijan to Bulgaria, discussed between the Bulgarian Bultransgaz and Azerbaijani SOCAR.

According to State Statistics Committee of Azerbaijan in January-April trade turnover with Bulgaria was $4.7 million.

Presently, the construction of the terminal on processing the Azerbaijani gas on the Georgia's Black Sea coast (SOCAR owns the oil terminal in Kulevi) and it transportation by vessels, particularly in Bulgaria for shipment to domestic gas pipeline network in Europe is under consideration. The project is envisaged in two directions - LNG and CNG. The first direction is the construction of gas liquefaction plant, and the second - delivery of gas directly by the ship for its compression. Within this project the question is about 7-20 billion cubic meters of gas.
