Head of OSCE Baku Office: Nagorno Karabakh impede development of democracy

“The conflicts like Nagorno Karabakh impede the development of democracy in the countries,” Head of OSCE Office in Baku Ali Bilge Cankorel said at the Center for Strategic Studies under Azerbaijani President.

In response to the question “Does the Nagorno Karabakh conflict have negative influence on the complete establishment of democracy in Azerbaijan?” Ali Bilge Cankorel said such conflicts have influence on the complete establishment of democracy in the region.

“The process of negotiations is continuing, the sides are participating in the dialogue. We hope for the negotiated solution to the conflict. This is our position and the position of the Azerbaijani President. The escalation of the conflict can not help the resolution of the problem. Participation in the resolution of Nagorno Karabakh conflict does not fall under may mandate, but this is my personal position on this issue. The more there is confidence in the country, the more there are chances to solve the conflict. I hope this conflict will be solved and this will favor Azerbaijan,” he said.
