Azerbaijani community in Crimea sends letter to Crimean Supreme Council

05 June 2010 [09:06] - TODAY.AZ
“Azerbaijani Community of Crimea” Public Union has sent a letter to the Parliament (Supreme Council) of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea proposing to declare February 26 as a day of commemoration of Khojaly victims. But the community's proposal was rejected by the chairman of the parliament.

On May 19, 2005, the parliament of the Crimean Autonomous Republic declared April 24 as a “day of commemoration of the victims of the Armenian people's tragedy.

The letter says: “the Supreme Council welcomes the address of one nation and rejects another one. Such approach violates the Ukraine`s Constitution and the country`s commitment based on the international agreements to protect human rights and equal rights of the nations.”

The Crimean parliament passed a resolution on the “Armenian genocide” violating its regulations. So, the Azerbaijani community in the Crimea calls on the parliament to declare February 26 as a day of commemoration of Khojaly victims or to cancel the decision on April 24.
