It is expected that women will take active part in the forthcoming parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan, chairperson of the State Committee for Family, Women and Children of Azerbaijan Hijran Huseynova said.

"We expect women to take active part in the parliamentary elections," she said today.
Fourteen are women of 125 MPs of the Azerbaijani Parliament, which makes 11 percent of MP seats. One of the three vice-chairmen of the parliament is woman. One of the parliamentary committees is chaired by a woman. Parliamentary elections will be held in Azerbaijan in autumn this year. Previously, the elections were held in November 2005. In Azerbaijan, the parliamentary elections are held by the majority system in 125 electoral districts.
"The last municipal elections in Azerbaijan have demonstrated active participation of women, and it is also expected in the upcoming parliamentary elections" Huseynova said.
