The Azerbaijan-U.S Maintenance and Contractor Workshop took place in Baku on Thursday.

The U.S. Government intends to purchase various goods from the South Caucasus region, including Azerbaijan, said temporary U.S. Charge d'Affaires in Azerbaijan, Donald Lu, according to Interfax-Azerbaijan. The purchased goods are to be bought for the needs of people in Afghanistan.

"We believe that Azerbaijan has quality products for sale, therefore, we are to spend millions of dollars to purchase products to support the Afghan people," - said Lu on on Friday in Baku, at a seminar on security issues between Azerbaijan and the U.S..

According to him, the purchasing of building materials, food and equipment from Azerbaijan will cost the U.S. more cheaply. "That business will be profitable for both Azerbaijan and the U.S.", - the diplomat said.

He also noted that the seminar organized by the U.S. Embassy in Baku, is part of the appeal made by the authorities of Azerbaijan to the U.S. government on large purchases of Azerbaijani goods.

Representatives of the US General Services Administration, US Defense Maintenance Agency and Seven Seas, TMC and TWI companies, which are supporting the US Government’s efforts in Afghanistan, addressed the event and informed the participants about their organizations.

U.S Transportation Command’s Deputy Foreign Policy Advisor Patrick Spatz said it was new initiative and aimed to purchase good from Azerbaijan and other countries of the region.

“We made visits to Azerbaijan and received detailed information. We hope that we will get high-quality goods. The volume of the purchase will depend on the quality of goods. Now we are learning the list of wide range goods”.

The Azerbaijani companies and U.S representatives held discussions during the workshop.
