Pardon decree may be signed in Azerbaijan on National Salvation Day

Another decree of pardon can be signed in Azerbaijan on the Day of National Salvation, celebrated on June 15, a member of pardons commission, MP Elmira Akhundova said.

"At present, received applications are considered by the members of the committee individually, after which they will be presented to the pardons commission," said Akhundova.

The MP did not say when the next meeting of the commission will be held.

Since 1994, 47 pardon decrees have been signed which affected 5,029 prisoners. Fifteen of decrees were signed by President Ilham Aliyev, and 32 by the late President Heydar Aliyev. The eight acts of amnesty signed up to now have been referred to 40,000 prisoners.

The last pardon decree was signed on the occasion of Novruz Holiday in the end of March.
