28 April 2010 [11:25] - TODAY.AZ
Chairman of Supreme Majlis of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan Vasif Talibov on Tuesday had a meeting with Turkish State Minister Hayati Yazici in Ankara. Talibov and Yazici discussed joint use of a customs gate at the border between Turkey and Nakhchivan, Anadolu Agency reported.

Yazici said officials of Nakhchivan, Turkey and Iran were carrying out talks for the joint use of Dilucu customs gate.

"If this gate is opened for joint use of these three countries, it will be a first in the world," Yazici told reporters during his meeting with Talibov.

Earlier this month, Turkey said it reached an agreement with two of its neighboring countries for the joint use of customs gates. Turkey agreed with Iran on joint use of Esendere customs gate and with Syria on Nusaybin customs gate.

Talks are also underway for joint use of Dilucu and Kapikoy gates with Iran, Sinova and Ovakoy gates with Iraq and Oncupinar, Akcakale and Karkamis gates with Syria.

Yazici said joint use of gates would help speed up crossing from one country to another and reduce smuggling.
