Prospects of cooperation between Azerbaijan and the EU in the energy sector, as well as regional energy projects have become the main theme of the meeting between Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov and EU Energy Commissioner Günther Oettinger, the Foreign Ministry reported.
Oettinger is on his first official visit to Baku.
During the meeting at the Foreign Ministry, the sides exchanged views on the current state and prospects of cooperation in the energy sector between Azerbaijan and the European Union, as well as regional energy projects.
Mammadyarov stressed that energy projects in Azerbaijan are aimed at providing the world market with additional supplies of energy, and that Azerbaijan prefers to diversify energy supplies.
In his turn, Oettinger again highlighted Azerbaijan's important role in energy security of the EU, and expressed hope for further cooperation in the energy sector. The meeting also covered various issues of mutual interest.
