Azerbaijan, Moscow region ready to sign program for economic, scientific-technical and cultural cooperation

Azerbaijan and Moscow region are ready to sign the medium-term program for economic, scientific-technical and cultural cooperation for 2010-2012, Deputy Minister of Industry of Moscow region, Mikhail Savin, said in Baku during the round table "Russia and Azerbaijan: through the expansion of inter-regional cooperation to strengthen the strategic partnership".

"A draft of the medium-term program for economic, scientific-technical and cultural cooperation for 2010-2012 has been worked out between Moscow region and Azerbaijan. We are ready to sign it shortly. This program is being developed through the Chamber of Commerce of Moscow region. We are ready for this work, " Savi said.

He said that the trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Moscow region in 2009 totaled $80 million. Basis of export are railway rolling stock, alcoholic and soft drinks, pastry and confectionery.

The basis of import are cotton and cotton fiber, plastic products, alcoholic and soft drinks, fruits and vegetables. One of prospective trends of cooperation is supply of hi-tech products, household appliances and electronic equipment to Azerbaijan.

Russian ambassador to Azerbaijan Vladimir Dorokhin said that in late April - early May a delegation from Stavropol region of Russia will arrive in Azerbaijan. It will discuss issues of bilateral cooperation.

He said that today the Russian regions cooperating with Azerbaijan, are mainly located inside the territory of Russia. However, we must develop relationships with adjacent regions of Russia.

At present, Azerbaijan and North Caucasus regions signed five intergovernmental agreements. In total, Azerbaijan cooperates with 70 Russian regions, the ambassador said.
