The earlier disagreements between Russia and Azerbaijan on policy issues in the South Caucasus are successfully overcame, Azerbaijani Presidential Administration socio-political department head Ali Hasanov believes.

According to him, after 2001 the relations between Azerbaijan and Russia rapidly expand and strategic partnership develops.

"Our countries' presidents' personal friendship plays an important role in establishing a friendly relationship," - Hasanov said at the opening of the conference on the topic "Russia and Azerbaijan: Through the Expansion of Interregional Cooperation to Strengthen Strategic Partnership."

Hasanov welcomed the Russian delegation on behalf of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev stressing the importance of development of Azerbaijani-Russian relations, as well as 200-year history of these relations.

The roundtable is held on the initiative of the Institute for European Studies (IES) in Baku today.

During the crisis, Azerbaijan and Russia were able to preserve and develop the strategic level of relations, chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Economic Policy Ziyad Samadzade said in his speech at the opening of the conference.

"The mutual trade turnover remained at the same level, despite the financial crisis," he said.
