Russian official: Azerbaijan successfully continues its cooperation with 70 regions of Russia

Today, Azerbaijan successfully continues its cooperation with 70 regions of Russia, said on Thursday in Baku Sergey Vinokurov, Head of the Department for Interregional and Cultural Ties with Foreign Countries under the Russian President, at the round table "Russia and Azerbaijan: through the expansion of interregional cooperation to strengthen the strategic partnership."

"Presently, Azerbaijan cooperates with 70 regions of Russia, with 37 regions have signed bilateral agreements and the country plans to sign similar agreements with another 11 Russian regions," Vinokourov said.

He said the theme of the roundtable is now urgent, since the relations between the two countries are developing dynamically and inter-regional cooperation is a factor in the strategic partnership between the states.

Azerbaijan and Russia cooperate in various fields, including economy, energy, political and cultural.

"For example, since the beginning of its activity the Russian company LUKOIL has invested more than $1.5 billion in the Azerbaijani economy," Vinokourov added.

Vinokourov expressed his willingness to discuss the possibility of giving the current event the annual status.

Based on the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee's data, in 2009 the trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Russia exceeded $1.65 billion.
