On Apr.8, OSCE organized discussions on the recommendations in the preparation and holding of parliamentary elections in the country in 2010, with the participation of the Azerbaijani 16 parties.

"The main OSCE recommendations are linked to the right of free assembly, non-admission of biased use of state resources to influence the outcome of the elections, the creation of conditions for both local and foreign observers and compliance with all international standards while counting votes," said First Deputy Director OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR), Douglas Wake.

"Such wide-ranging discussion should be held to conduct elections in accordance with the law," ruling New Azerbaijan Party (NAP) Deputy Chairman and Executive Secretary Ali Ahmedov said.

During the discussions, Head of OSCE Baku Office Ali Bilge Cankorel said that the organization is ready to support the government, political parties and civil society to improve the electoral process and conduct it in accordance with the OSCE commitments and international standards.

The main topic of discussion that was attended by representatives of political parties, civil society and international community were issues related to the execution of the law "On freedom of assembly" and questions on the election campaign, including the illegal interference in the electoral process.
