The country's current Electoral Code provides the necessary legal basis for holding democratic and fair elections," ruling New Azerbaijan Party (NAP) Deputy Chairman and Executive Secretary Ali Ahmedov told journalists today. He commented on some political forces' initiative to amend the Azerbaijani Electoral Code.
He said after the adoption of the Electoral Code in 2000, Azerbaijan has held several elections, and in practice, this law passed the test. "All elections held in Azerbaijan, reflect the will of the Azerbaijani people and people accept the election results. I think that the legislation could not be more tested," Ahmadov said.
The country's opposition parties stand for improving the Electoral Code to conduct transparent and democratic elections. The opposition mainly demands to form electoral commissions on a parity basis.
Currently, the majority of seats in the election commissions belongs the ruling New Azerbaijan Party.
