Moscow hosts event on Day of Azerbaijanis' Genocide

The Azerbaijani embassy in Russia hosted an event on March 31, Day of Azerbaijanis’ Genocide on Wednesday.
The event featured presentation of the book entitled “Baku. March 1918. Azerbaijani pogroms in documents” By Solmaz Rustamova-Togidi.

Azerbaijani ambassador to Russia Polad Bulbuloglu said, March 31 marks a Day of Genocide of Azerbaijanis in all countries where Azerbaijan has diplomatic mission.

The ambassador said to commemorate the victims of the genocide and refresh the memory of those terrible events of 1918 in the history of the Azerbaijani people. Famous historian Solmaz Rustmova-Togidi was invited to Moscow to present her invaluable book which is a result of enormous research work.

The book is extremely important for the history of Azerbaijan and the Azerbaijani people. She has done a great job, has collected very valuable archive material and released a book about those terrible events.

The ambassador expressed his deep gratitude to the Azerbaijani Ministry of National Security on behalf of all Azerbaijanis for the opportunity to work with archives and support to the release of the book.

"I think the book will be translated into other languages, because it is very important to know about it not only in Russia but in Europe where so-called "genocide"of our neighboring nation has reached debates in parliaments. But few people know about the atrocities against Azerbaijani people in Azerbaijan’s territory,” the ambassador noted.

The author of the book Solmaz Rustamov-Togidi noted that Azerbaijani scientists and historians are responsible to publish such books.

According to the author, she worked on that book for three years. She added, that the events of March 1918 were written about to some extent in 1920s-1930s. But nothing was written about those events later on.

Rustamova-Togidi appreciated the historic significance of the decree of national leader Heydar Aliyev to mark March 31 as the Day of Genocide of Azerbaijanis of the world.

Famous Russian historians Alexander Garyanin and Rudolf Ivanov praised the courageous research work of the Azerbaijani historian.

The event was attended by representatives of the Azerbaijani community of the Russian capital, the Russian scientific and social community, students of Moscow universities, AMOR and many others.
