"Azerbaijan should not accept any agreement that would restrict country’s rights in its own territory,” member of the Azerbaijani Parliament Sabir Rustamkhanli said.
He was commenting on Armenian President’s recent call to sign non-aggression treaty.
"I believe that in any case such an agreement would tie our hands in terms of restoration of our country’s territorial integrity," the MP said.
"Armenia is constantly claiming that Armenians residing in Azerbaijan have the right to self-determination, but it keeps silent about rights of hundred thousands of Azerbaijanis uprooted from the country. Who will take care of their rights? Why, for example, the Council of Europe does not raise this issue? If we talk about the values promoted by Europe, the CE should long ago have raised these issues to Armenia. But we do not see this,” the MP said.
“So, I am confident that Azerbaijan has the right to take any measures to suppress extremism, separatism and terrorism in its own territory. This is precisely the reason why we will not sign any agreements that limit our right to restore territorial integrity of the country,” Rustamkhanli added.
