FM: Azerbaijan attaches great importance to Novruz holiday

Azerbaijan attaches great importance to Novruz Holiday and it has a prominent place in culture of the country, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov said in his speech at Novruz festivities in Iran on March 27, Iranian news channel İRİNN reported.

"I convey greetings of the president and people of Azerbaijan to participants. Conducting such events assumes great importance. Novruz is celebrated on the international level. We must continue this initiative, this holiday should be celebrated more widely in the future," Mammadyarov said.

The U.N. has given an international holiday status to the Novruz holiday.

In connection with that the state officials of the Novruz celebrating countries have been invited to the event.

The event, which began on March 27 in Tehran, will continue in Shiraz next day.

Iran's president offered to hold Novruz celebrations in one of the Novruz celebrating countries every year with the participation of officials from other countries.

Addressing the event, Tajik President Imomali Rahmon also supported the Iranian president's proposal.
