Azerbaijani Parliament adopts protest to U.S. Congress over "Armenian genocide" resolution

05 March 2010 [20:17] - TODAY.AZ
Azerbaijani Parliament will send an appeal to the U.S. Congress to protest adoption of the resolution recognizing the so-called "Armenian Genocide" by the U.S. House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee.

Appeal has been prepared by a working group under the chairmanship of the Samad Seyidov, chairman of the Milli Majlis (parliament) standing committee on international relations and inter-parliamentary relations.

The U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee adopted yesterday with 23 to 22 votes a resolution recognizing the so-called "genocide."

The appeal expresses regret on adoption of a resolution recognizing the so-called "Armenian Genocide" by the U.S. House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee.

The appeal says that that there was no "Armenian genocide" in the history and this was proven by Western historians. "In fact, the Armenian genocide is a product of a sick imagination," the document says.

The appeal says the Azerbaijani parliament believes that the resolution will be rejected by U.S. Congress.
