
Prior to the Jamaica annual diplomatic week, Agshin Mehdiyev, Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Jamaica and Permanent Representative of Azerbaijan to the United Nations met with Dr. Kenneth Baugh, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Jamaica.
Parties acknowledged the need to work towards the strengthening of bilateral relations, prospects for cooperation in the areas of common interest and upgrading the legal base for the relationship.
With a view to discussing cooperation and dialogue on political, legal, economic, technical, educational and cultural issues, both sides agreed on the need for regular meetings and debates.
As regards the Armenian-Azerbaijani dispute over Nagorno-Karabakh, Agshin Mehdiyev said that “as a result of Armenian invasion, 20 percent of the Azerbaijan`s territory, including six border regions of Azerbaijan were occupied by Armenia, resulting in one million population displacement within the country”.
