The number of the Azerbaijani students has increased in U.S. colleges and universities, Public Relations Officer of the U.S. Embassy in Azerbaijan Terry Davidson said at a news conference.
He said according to the annual Open Doors report of the Institute of International Education, the number of the Azerbaijani students in the higher schools in America increased from 318 to 364 (14 percent).

Davidson considers that the Azerbaijanis, who want to study abroad, mainly choose the United States, because of the prestige and quality of the education in the US.

“Every Azerbaijani studying in America contributes to dialogue and promotes understanding between our countries,” he said.

Azerbaijanis study in the US mainly through Baku Education Information Center and Ganja Education Information Center, some at their own expenses.

"I would like other students to take interest and get an opportunity to study with the support of Baku Education Information Center,” he said.

Asked which universities Azerbaijani students prefer, Davidson noted that he had no statistics, but said he knew that majority of Azerbaijani students were studying in Columbia University.
