EU conflict experience could be useful for Karabakh conflict too: EU special representative for S. Caucasus

16 November 2009 [12:09] - TODAY.AZ
EU Special Representative on the South Caucasus Peter Semneby began his visit to Azerbaijan from Ganja.
He met with the head of Ganja City Executive Committee Eldar Azizov on Nov. 15.

Semneby called Ganja a gate of Azerbaijan opened to the West and said it was important to learn life style in the city.

He said he would visit Baku after Ganja.

Semneby also spoke about the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

“I can’t say anything about the settlement of the conflict now mostly because EU is not in the OSCE Minsk Group, but the European Union can and will play a role in the solution to Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. We have great experience in this field. Our conflict experience could be useful for karabakh conflict, too," Semneby said.

"Regarding the negotiation process I can say that there was intensification over the past year. Azerbaijani and Armenian presidents and foreign ministers held a number of meetings. Even they signed a document in Moscow year ago, which is a positive event in the settlement of the conflict. We hope that the process will be developed”.
