Candidates are active in run up to municipal elections: Azerbaijan's Central Election Commission

“Candidates are active in run up to municipal elections,” Azerbaijani Central Election Commission Spokesperson Azer Sariyev said.

 “A large number of candidates have been nominated,” he said.  

“Over 20,000 candidates have already been registered,” Sariyev said.

Azerbaijan will hold municipal elections on Dec. 23. Elections will be held for 15, 682 places in the 1, 718 municipalities. All voters besides those with the status of internally displaced persons are illegible to participate in the municipal elections. Voting will take place in 118 constituencies.

Starting from Oct. 8, individuals participating in the municipal elections can nominate for the elections. The campaign to collect signatures will continue untill Nov. 13.

Those who nominate themselves as candidates must submit signatures of voters to the election commissions no later than Nov. 13.

Lists with signatures received after this date will not be accepted.

According to the schedule, the registration of observers in the CEC will continue until Dec. 13 and in the district electoral commissions - untill Dec. 18.

Organizations willing to hold “exit poll” are required submit documents to the CEC till Dec. 3.
