17 October 2009 [09:09] - TODAY.AZ
Azerbaijan's opposition's Musavat Party issued a statement on the coming municipal elections that will be held on Dec. 23.
The statement says that Musavat offered to form election commissions on equal basis and refuses to be present election commissions.

“Umid Party agreed to be represented in the election commissions, partially filled the places allotted for Musavat and other opposition parties and damaged the political struggle carried out for democratic statehood.”

Taking into account these factors, Musavat Party states that it is impossible to continue the cooperation with this party.

Musavat notes that it is ready to continue cooperation with other parties of the Movement for Karabakh and Republic (Azerbaijan Popular front Party, Azerbaijan Liberal Party, Azerbaijan Democratic Party), hold discussions on establishing political or election blocs.

Umid Party chairman Igbal Aghazadeh said that this statement keeps uncertain information.

He said if there were facts proving Umid’s cooperation with the government, it should be made public.

“Musavat Party splits the opposition by the government’s order. It has carried out it for long years. Musavat destroyed Demcongress as well. It was on the threshold of power in 2003, but stepped back and was not able to lead the process till the end. It breached an agreement with Azadlig bloc and joined the parliament in 2005. Now it continues dividing the opposition”.
