Azerbaijan Democratic Party refused to participate in the municipal elections to be held on on Dec. 23.

The party’s press office said the decision was passed at the extraordinary meeting of the ADP Management Board.
ADP issued a statement about it. According to the statement, the party members will put forward their candidacy on their own initiatives.
The statement says that the official status of the municipalities is not line with the European Charter of Local Self-Government, the role and authorities of municipalities is restricted, citizens are not interested in the local elections because of the imperfect election experience.
“ADP expresses its regret that it will not participate in the local elections together with the other political parties because of the crisis in the Movement for Karabakh and Republic. ADP does not consider it expedient to participate in the elections as a party, as there are serious technical difficulties in the Electoral Code concerning the participation as a party," the party said.
So, to increase political activeness in the country, involve the citizens in the political life of the society the party passes a decision on individual participation in the local elections and calls on its members and supporters to take active part in the forthcoming local elections,” the party said.
