“The campaign for municipal elections will be launched in near future,” Central Election Commission Spokesperson Azer Sariyev said.

"The start of the campaign depends on the CEC decision. That is, members of the Central Election Commission will meet and determine the start date of the election campaign, as well as decide, for example, that in mid-December, Azerbaijan will hold municipal elections,” he said.
He noted that the last municipal elections took place in Dec. 2004.
“This time they will be held in December, too,” he added.
Sariyeva said “timetable for the municipal elections is almost ready.”
"The last preparatory work on this issue is nearing end. The timetable will be approved by the CEC in the first day of the election campaign and will be made public through the media. It will also be posted at the Central Election Commission of Azerbaijan Web site,” he said.
"It is expected that a CEC meeting on the electoral campaign will take place this week,” he said.
"The Municipal elections in Azerbaijan will be held in the second half of December, after the December 17-18,” he said.
“The procedure for municipal elections will take place in accordance with the law. The election campaign will begin 75 days before the municipal elections. Candidates will be nominated and approved, signatures will be collected and verified. Candidates will start campaigning 28 days before election day,” he said.
This year the number of municipalities in Azerbaijan as a result of their merger reduced from 2,760 to 1,720, he said.
"We will spare no effort to hold municipal elections in Azerbaijan in accordance with the laws of the country fairly, transparently and democratically,” Sariyev said.
"The day of voting, according to the electoral law will be declared a public holiday,” he said.
