Azerbaijan refutes reports claiming it voted to deprive Russian delegation of vote right in PACE

02 October 2009 [15:48] - TODAY.AZ
Azerbaijan has refuted media reports claiming that it voted for deprivation of Russian delegation's vote right in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE).
"The reports are absolutely untrue. Today [Oct. 2] I talked to chairman of Russia's delegation Konstantin Kosachev. He also rejected Russian media reports. Voting results testifies for this and all data about the voting results are available on the internet," Vice-President of the PACE and head of the Azerbaijani delegation to the PACE Samad Seyidov said.

The PACE latest session once again approved vote right of the Russian delegation in the organization. Thus, the initiative to deprive Russia of the right to vote was rejected by 72 PACE parliamentarians.

Some Russian media reports said Azerbaijan has allegedly voted against Russia.

Seyidov said the Azerbaijani delegation has repeatedly expressed its position not only in this session, but also at the PACE Monitoring Committee meetings in Strasbourg and Paris.

"We are against the expulsion of Russia from the CE. The results of votes also testify for it. Apparently, there are forces that want to create problems for Azerbaijan," Seyidov added.
