U.S. may consider joint use of Gabala radar: political expert

18 September 2009 [15:41] - TODAY.AZ
“The United States may consider joint use of the Gabala radar station,” Azerbaijani political expert Zardusht Alizade said commenting on media reports that the U.S. will deploy a new missile defense system in the Caucasus.
“Maybe in an attempt to involve Russia in a common cause even more and reduce its threat to the American policy, the U.S. will consider joint use of the Gabala radar station,” he said.

“Whatever decision is made, it will not be of a special significance for Azerbaijan. This question is interesting for those countries that have military power and  air defense missile system,” the political expert added.

“I believe the Gabala radar as a military facility is important only for Russia. Russia also offered the U.S. to jointly use this facility and it is United States’ own business whether to accept it. Gabala radar does not play a role for Azerbaijan as a military facility,” Alizade said.
