Turkmenistan not makes territorial claims to any country: president

"Turkmenistan does not make territorial claims against any country and does not consider any country its enemy. Turkmenistan considers its borders as those of peace, friendship and good neighborhood," the Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimhhammedov said on the eve of a meeting with the heads of law-enforcement agencies.
"We will continue to reform our armed forces to strengthen their defense capabilities by equipping them with modern technology, improve conditions of service, life of defenders of the homeland according to the basic principles of military doctrine," Altyn Asir national TV channel quoted the president as saying.

He said Turkmenistan has a long border along the Caspian Sea which needs to be protected.

Under Turkmen president's order, a naval base will be established in Turkmenistan till 2015, which will be equipped with modern surveillance equipment and ships with missiles on board.

The Turkmen President motivated the need for such actions by the fact that today there more international extremist and terrorist groups interested in drugs smuggling.

Berdimuhammedov said there is internal tension in some countries causing human losses.

According to the official data, Turkmenistan has successfully conducted several operations to render groups engaged in drug trafficking harmless.
