Foreign Former Iranian minister: The situation in Iran will have no serious impact on Azerbaijan and other neighbor countries

04 July 2009 [11:10] - TODAY.AZ
The situation in Iran will have no serious impact on Azerbaijan and other neighbor countries, Fariborz Ghadar, Senior Advisor of the US Center for Strategic and International Studies and former minister of Iranian Shah’s government, said.
Ghadar said he didn’t believe that the revolutionary mood in Iran would turn into the extraordinary conforntation. “I don’t think that situation is so severe that we will have immigration to Azerbaijan or anywhere else. It is an internal conflict that will be resolved”, said Ghadar.

The former minister expressed his opinion about possible solution of the conflicts in Iran’s elite. “I believe that they will get together behind close doors and with all the respect to the demonstrations they will come up with some kind of compromise. It may result in slightly more democratic, slightly more private sector and slightly more powerful Majlis”.

“Many of neighbors feel that if Iran becomes more republican, more democratic then U.S. will pay more attention to them and put pressure on our neighbors basically move towards democracy. I think that is a long way before it happens. First, you have to see shift in Iran, second, see a movement toward more democratic society, then opening the relations with U.S. By then I will retire”, said Ghadar.
