Azerbaijani president: We witness development of Poland-Azerbaijan energy ties for last years (UPDATE)

Two-day official visit of President Lech Kaczynski of Poland to Azerbaijan ended on July 3, AzerTAj state news agency reported.

The First Deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan Yagub Eyubov and other officials accompanied Head of Poland and his wife to Baku International Heydar Aliyev Airport.

On July 3, Polish President Lech Kaczynski was awarded the title of Honorary Doctor of the Baku Slavic University. Kaczynski thanked the Rector of the Slavic University Kamal Abdullah, professors and students of the university for the warm welcome and greetings in native language.

He also noted the important role of BSU in strengthening ties between Azerbaijan and Poland.
Kaczynski stressed the importance that both Poland and Azerbaijan are independent states and are free to choose their own way.

"It is important that our countries are in the way, which they chose themselves," he said while giving a speech at BSU.

In honor of the Polish President, the students performed the national anthem of Poland.

Polish President Lech Kaczynski met with Azerbaijani Prime Minister Artur Rasizade on July 3, AzerTaj state news agency reported.

 

The meeting focused on dynamic development of Azerbaijan-Poland ties. The sides exchanged views on expansion of economic ties between the two countries.

Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity must be ensured while resolving the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

Polish President Lech Kaczynski said at a ceremony of awarding Heydar Aliyev order to him.

“Of course, I support a peaceful solution to the problem. And, in reality, this is the only way to solve the dispute. The rights of minorities must be protected, but Azerbaijan`s territorial integrity must be ensured, restored,” he said.

He said Forced violation of territorial integrity of any country is unacceptable

“I myself have no doubts on this issue. Forced violation of territorial integrity of any country is unacceptable. No one should act under the flag of even the most powerful patron. I know that it is how this story happened.”

“You have always supported Azerbaijan`s territorial integrity on the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh, and the people of Azerbaijan are grateful to you for this.,” President Ilham Aliyev said.

There are strong political relations between Azerbaijan and Poland, Ilham Aliyev said at a joint press conference with Polish counterpart, Azertaj reported.

Ilham Aliyev said that in the economic sphere good results are achieved.
Head of Azerbaijan stressed the importance of cooperation in the energy field.
"In recent years we have seen the development of Polish-Azerbaijani relations in the energy field. This area is very important for Azerbaijan, as well as to Poland, for Europe. Poland-Azerbaijan relations are developing in this direction both in bilateral and in a larger format. The actions, which we call the Krakow Initiative, serve to the deepening of regional cooperation", said Ilham Aliyev.
According to him, the feasibility study of the Odessa-Brody-Gdansk pipeline is already prepared.

“I am convinced that, we must take new steps based on the results achieved in the coming years. In this area, important steps have already been taken and feasibility study of the Odessa-Brody-Gdansk has been prepared. This is a very important event. I hope that in coming years will achieve the desired in issues of regional cooperation,” he said.

Ilham Aliyev also discussed regional cooperation regarding the Caspian Sea - Black Sea - Baltic Sea.

“Today we are talking about regional cooperation Caspian Sea - Black Sea - Baltic Sea. It covers both the energy and political ties, transport, and humanitarian problems, in general, a lot of questions. Polish-Azerbaijani bilateral relations are very important to address these issues,” he said.

“Poland has a very important and impressive ability to strengthen the links of Azerbaijan with the European Union and is currently using  Recently Eastern Partnership Program was launched and I believe it is a new page in relations between the European Union and Azerbaijan, and we are ready to do so. We are ready to contribute to addressing energy security. An excellent relationship based on mutual respect has been established on other issues between the EU and Azerbaijan. In the coming years we will deepen this relationship. In short, our relations are very broad, provided by our bilateral relations and our successful development. At the same time they have a great impact on relations between Europe and Azerbaijan,” he said.

“There is some progress in the sesettlement of the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. All issues, all conflicts must be resolved on the basis of a single principle: the territorial integrity of any country should be treated with respect and the territorial integrity of any country is inviolable. Only on this basis any conflict, including the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict can be resolved,” said President Ilham Aliyev.

President of Poland Lech Kaczynski has been awarded the Heydar Aliyev Order, the highest state award of Azerbaijan, for his services in developing friendly relations and cooperation between the two countries. The award was presented to the Polish leader by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev at a ceremony on Thursday.

President Ilham Aliyev said it was pleasure for him to present the Heydar Aliyev order, the highest state award of Azerbaijan to Polish president..

“You are a close friend of the people of Azerbaijan and you have particular services in developing the Poland-Azerbaijan relations. Your initiatives were a great contribution to energy cooperation between Azerbaijan and Poland and, in a broad sense, to Europe`s energy affairs. This is your fifth visit to Azerbaijan in three years, and it is a vivid evidence of strong relations between the two countries,” he said.

The Polish president said It was a great honor for him to accept this order. “Since it is the symbol of Azerbaijan`s independence. You country gained independence just at the same time when our country did. This independence marked crucial, fundamental changes in the life of both the people of Azerbaijan and Poland. I have been involved in politics for many long years. I was elected president in my country and one of my priorities was building relations with countries that gained their independence 18 years ago and embarked on the development path. This was also the triumph of those who supported interests of Azerbaijan and Poland. At the same time, another important thing was that both big and small nations had full rights to autonomy and independence,” he said.
