Armed way of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict should be excluded: State Secretary of German Foreign Ministry

"It is necessary to rule out any possible armed way of the resolution of the Karabakh conflict", considers state secretary of the German Foreign Ministry Gernot Erler.
"The German government assists to the negotiation process on the resolution of the Karabakh conflict and our efforts are aimed to assists its resolution", assured Erler Monday at a press conference in Yerevan.

The state secretary is visiting Armenia March 29-31. The visit envisions Erler's meeting with Armenian president Serzh Sargsyan, speaker of parliament Ovik Abramyan, vice speaker, chairman of the Armenian-German deputy group of friendship Arevik Petrosyan.

The state secretary noted that the many-year attempts to settle the conflict, based on such principles of international law, as principle of territorial integrity and right of nation for self-determination, are not so effective and "more practical approaches to the negotiation process" aimed to overcome differences of the sides and reach agreement.

Erler noted that the conflict settlement requires attainment of compromises in the negotiation process. The state secretary informed that during his regional visit he will make his proposals regarding the resolution of the Karabakh conflict.

"Though we state that the meetings on the level of presidents are effective, it is necessary to prepare the public for compromises. There is no place for populism and propaganda here- we need to think of peace and the region, its future and have a political courage to assume this responsibility", announced he.
