Armenian expert: "If hostilities resume in the Karabakh conflict area, threatening Armenia, it may use collective forces"

09 February 2009 [14:46] - TODAY.AZ
"The Collective Security Treaty Organization passed many stages of establishment.

A number of documents on ensuring security in the member-states of the organization was signed in the CSTO framework, and it is now time to pass a decision about creation of the collective fast response forces," said chairman of the standing commission on defense and national security and international affairs Artur Agabekyan.

"After signing this decision, the CSTO member-states must undertake definite steps for dislocation of these forces. But as these forces have not been formed it is difficult to say in which cases and how they will be used. We must assess and coordinate further steps", said Aghabekyan.

He noted that the CSTO to define further steps will be established following ratification of the decision.

"We are happy with the signing of this decision as it will allow us to resist future challenges", noted chairman of the parliamentary commission.

He also noted that in case hostilities in the Karabakh conflict area resume, Armenia may use collective forces. "But now it is difficult to speak about the real tasks of the CFRF", said Aghabekyan.

The decision to create CFRF was adopted at the summit of the CSTO member-states.
