Azerbaijan Democratic Party condemns decision on closure of foreign radio stations

06 January 2009 [10:32] - TODAY.AZ
The Democratic Party of Azerbaijan held its regular session on Monday, reports Day.Az with reference to the press service for the party.
As is reported the session participants discussed the situation in the Near East after the Israeli air forces started an assault in Gaza. The party condemns the position of the United Nations and the United States connected with this conflict, especially because they do not take effective and urgent measures to prevent the conflict.

The session participants also considered the recent decision by the National Television and Radio Council to discontinue broadcasting of Azadlyg, Voice of America and BBC radio stations on national frequencies. The party assessed this step as a restriction of access to alternative information. The party considers that such a fact may lead to the crisis of information in 2009.

Moreover, the session participants heard a report on the political results of 2008 and defined main prospects for 2009. Due instruction were given to separate structures in this regard.
