President of Armenia holds meeting with country's political powers on Karabakh conflict settlement

21 November 2008 [10:27] - TODAY.AZ
Leaders of 50 parties of Armenia attended today's session on the Karabakh conflict settlement, organized by initiative of Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan.
The parties included in the oppositional Armenian National Congress (ANC) refused to participate in the hearings. Gagik Tsarukyan, the leader of Prosperous Armenia Party included in the ruling coalition, is currently in Moscow, therefore this party took no part in Nov 20 hearings either.

After the hearings representative of the Supreme Body of ARF Dashnaksutyun Party, MP Armen Rustamyan positively assessed the hearings and said that they were unprecedented. He said that during the hearings he presented ARFD approaches to the conflict settlement that are based on the inadmissibility of "confusion of the concepts 'compromise' and 'concession'. "One shouldn't allow the document on the peace process to concern only Azerbaijani refugees and territories and not the whole territory of Nagorno Karabakh, including Shahumyan region, refugees, Karabakh status, ensuring the security of Karabakh population, land boundaries with Armenia. We insist on the conflict settlement in a package", Rustamyan said.

For his part, Leader of the National-Democratic Union Party Vazgen Manukyan said that the ANC member parties were wrong not to participate in the hearings. "I can understand that a party refuses to participate in the hearings on domestic issues thereby demonstrating its political position. But in this case the matter concerns a nationwide problem, here such demonstration is irrelevant. I assess the hearings positively", Manukyan stressed.
