Anne Derse: "Best partners for the United States are the countries, which attain stability in the country and promote creation of strong democratic institutions, by using oil wealth"

There is no doubt that the countries with rich energy sources are able not only to develop their economy but also to advance in the democracy issues, said US ambassador to Azerbaijan Anne Derse at a press conference today.

At the same time, she noted that on the basis of global experience, including by example of different oil-rich states, it is possible to say that availability of large energy reserves cause negative moments in state regulation.

She said this can be negative both in the economic and political spheres and noted that everything depends on wisdom of the government and the people, who use natural resources.

"The best partners for the United States are the countries, which attain stability in the country and promote creation of strong democratic institutions using their oil reserves", said she.

She noted that media, functioning independently, observing broadcasting rules and spreading objective information, is an important factor in this direction.

"Another factor is existence of highly educated people in the society, as well as availability of active civil society. We will further support these goals of Azerbaijan", announced Derse.
