Musavat party against idea to reject limitation of presidential term

The Musavat party is against Siyavush Novruzov's idea to hold a referendum and remove articles, prohibiting the election of a person as a country president for more than twice, from the Constitution, said head of the party central office Arif Hajili.

He said voicing such ideas and statements damages the image of Azerbaijan.

"Application of such an idea will mean establishment of monarchy in the country. The arguments, which are listed by the deputy executive secretary of the Yeni Azerbaijan party are also false, as in the most democratic countries the term of election of a president is restricted. It is limited by 8 years in the United States and makes 10 years in independent Azerbaijan.

History showed that even the most skillful leader can not be successful among people for more than ten years. The Musavat party considers that Siyavush Novruzov's proposal is wrong and creates a threat to prospects of democracy in Azerbaijan", noted he.
