Chairman of Armenian Popular Party: "It is obvious that US Jewish lobby supports Azerbaijan and Israel sells arms to it"

22 October 2008 [13:52] - TODAY.AZ
"Azerbaijan is growing diplomatically stronger", considers chairman of the Armenian Popular Party Tigran Karapetyan.
"The statement of Levon Ter-Petrosyan, former president of Armenia and leader of opposition party about suspension of meetings in the face of the threat to Armenian statehood can be explained by Ter-Petrosyan's attempt to wash hands of the case, as it was him who involved the external powers into the internal affairs of the country", noted Karapetyan.

"Only one political figure, who did not betray or change his political positions and preserved his electorate has remained on the political arena. This is me. The Armenian coalition and opposition have damaged the political field of the country", said he.

According to the chairman of the Popular Party, the opposition, led by first president Levon Ter-Petrosyan will not resume meetings.

"People counted on the change of powers, but their hopes did not come true", said Karapetyan noting that there are two factors determining Levon Ter-Petrosyan's quitting. According to him, the first is a drop in the number of meeting participants due to disappointment among people and cold weather. The second reason is objective and connected with the intention of Russia and the United States to settle the Karabakh conflict.

"Each of these countries try to settle the Karabakh conflict by their own way, but anyway Armenia will lose the liberated lands as Russia and the United States "try to please" Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan is growing stronger and raising the number of its supporters. It is obvious that the US Jewish lobby supports Azerbaijan, while Israel sells arms to it. Azerbaijan is growing diplomatically stronger", noted Karapetyan.

Commenting on the visit of Russian President Dmitri Medvedev to Yerevan, the chairman of the Popular Party noted that Medvedev's aim is to bloc US access to Middle Asia.

"The United States is determined to strengthen its positions in the Caucasus. It failed to do so through Georgia and now they spare no efforts for getting access to Middle Asia via Azerbaijan", noted the chairman of the Popular Party,

According to Karapetyan, if Russia fails to resist it by Armenia's help, it will turn its eye on Azerbaijan.

"The United States and Russia are fighting for establishment of their influence on Armenia, which in turn adheres to the complementary policy, being unable to define which side to take", said Karapetyan noting that he prefers cooperation with Russia.
