Representative of European Commission: "We do hope that Azerbaijan will take an active part in "The Program of Eastern Partnership"

Azerbaijan's Economic Development Minister Heydar Babayev has received Yanos German, deputy general director on external ties of the European commission and chief consultant on regional cooperation, reports the press service for the Azerbaijani Economic Development Ministry.

At the meeting, Babayev noted that Azerbaijan is closely cooperating with the European union and the country's integration with the European area is one of the priorities of external policy. Measures are taken in this direction for bringing the country's legislation in compliance with European standards and for Azerbaijan's accession to the World Trade Organization.

The Minister said the process of Azerbaijan's WTO accession is being accelerated. The fifth session of the work group was held in Geneva in May of this year, while the next session is planned to be conducted by the end of this year.

In turn, German noted that Azerbaijan's achievement are the focus of attention of the European community. He said the European Union is interested in cooperation with the South Caucasus region.

The initiative "Program of Eastern Partnership" was put forward in this connection. For the purpose of developing this initiative, the European Union intends to develop new mechanisms. German voiced hope that Azerbaijan will take an active part in the "Program of Eastern Partnership".
