Sardar Jalaloghlu: "Opposition has chosen a right way of not holding mass protests in Azerbaijan"

29 August 2008 [11:09] - TODAY.AZ
"In conditions when tensions are growing in the South Caucasus, powers and opposition should demonstrate tolerance", said chairman of the Democratic Party of Azerbaijan Sardar Jalaloghlu.
He said opposition has chosen the right way of not holding any protests in connection with the elections.

"If independence and territorial integrity of the country are challenged, it is inexpedient to arrange any games, aimed at establishing democracy. Unless the situation in the region is settled, oppositional parties should not take any actions".

As for the possibility of initiating a dialogue for the settlement of the national problems between powers and opposition, Jalaloghlu said:

"If needed, the powers and opposition will have no other way out except for uniting for settling common problems. I think the said approach is incorrect as both powers should cooperate on all problems, emerging in the country.

Unfortunately, few representatives of opposition and powers support the idea of holding a dialogue. On the whole, Azerbaijan has no experience of holding a dialogue, as the said method of communication between the two countries is not welcomed. Nevertheless, our party is always for its conduction.

Among powers there are also people, who ignore the activity of the opposition".
