28 August 2008 [10:32] - TODAY.AZ
"The new coalition of Azerbaijani opposition is created in connection with the current political situation", said deputy chairman of the Open Society Party Yaqub Abbasov.
He said non-participation of several parties in the presidential elections is caused by the failure to provide equal conditions for all candidates, non-observance of the law "On freedom of assembly" and "Freedom of Speech" and failure to introduce necessary amendments and alterations to the Electoral Code.

"We will soon make the results of the talks public. Our aim is to create a coalition which will conduct joint actions not only in period of presidential elections, but also in period of municipal elections of 2009 and parliamentary elections of 2010. The parties want to create a united team, which will be consistent in its actions", announced he.

As for the name of the coalition, Abbasov said:

"The parties are just holding consultations. If we manage to attain the set goals, the remaining issues will be settled in period of cooperation".

The new coalition is proposed to include parties, represented in the Azadlyg bloc (Azerbaijan Popular Front Party, Azerbaijan Liberal Party and Civil Development Party), the Classical Front Party of Azerbaijan, Open Society Party, Musavat Party and Public forum "For Azerbaijan".
