27 August 2008 [15:47] - TODAY.AZ
Armenia is for the resolution of conflicts on the basis of people's free will, said spokesman for Armenian Foreign Ministry Tigran Balayan in his interview to Day.Az correspondent.
Thus, asked about the official position of Armenia on recognition of South Ossetia and Abkhazia by Russia, Balayan said that "Armenia has always spoken for the peaceful resolution of conflicts and it continues to be confident that the armed resolution of the conflict lacks prospects. Such conflicts should be settled on the basis of people's free will".

As for the proposal of Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan about creation of the Caucasus alliance with participation of Georgia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Turkey and Russia, Balayan noted that Armenia has always spoken for a dialogue and talks, especially on the issues of security and cooperation in the region.

"We welcome the announcement of the Turkish Premier about an intention to initiate talks on these issues with Armenia," concluded Balayan.
