Head of CIS mission to observe presidential elections in Azerbaijan appointed

Sergei Lebedev, chairman of the executive committee and executive secretary of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) is appointed head of the mission to observe the presidential elections in Azerbaijan, representing CIS.
Novosti-Azerbaijan reports with reference to the press service for the CIS executive committee that the due decision was adopted at the session of the Council of permanent plenipotentiary representatives of the CIS member-states under founding and other bodies of the commonwealth, held in Minsk on August 26.

The head office of the CIS observers' mission is planned to open in mid September in Baku. The head office will function by invitation of the Azerbaijani side and in connection with the regulation on CIS observation mission at presidential and parliamentary elections, as well as referendums in the CIS member-states.

The mission will include long-term and short-term observers from the CIS states.
